TEACHING

I have been truly fortunate to have worked and studied with many great mentors who have taught me to perform, compose, hear and speak music.  Through private lessons and workshops I aim to give back what I have been given over the years.

I teach:
  • upright and electric bass (focused on jazz, folk, slap, bluegrass, improvisation, classical music and technique)
  • bluegrass and claw hammer banjo
  • playing while singing
  • song-writing
  • folk guitar
  • music theory integrated with performance skills

In each instrument, I take the student through fun songs to learn new techniques, advancing their ability to hear music accurately and develop right and left hand techniques to play with the most strength and ease.  I encourage playing by ear, note-reading and playful improvisation.

I teach both to encourage a student's creativity and understanding.  With school-aged students, I connect music with diverse subjects like science, math and history.  I have taught everyone from toddlers to adults.

I teach from my home in South Slope, Brooklyn or through Skype.
I can also travel to you.  If in very close by, there's no extra charge.

Lessons are $60 for an hour $50 for 45 minutes or $35 for a half hour.
Students must give me 24 hours notice to cancel a lesson.
Discounts are available if buying lessons in bulk.
